Seven people have been arrested in relation to the attack on BJP president JP Nadda’s convoy at Diamond Harbor in West Bengal’s South 24 Paraganas district. State’s Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay in a letter to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla stated that three cases had been registered in relation to the incident.
“Further three cases have been registered in this connection, while two of them are specifically for vandalism, one each at Usthi PS and Falta PS, both under the Diamond Harbor Police district. Seven persons have been arrested in these two cases,” stated Bandyopadhyay.
According to sources in the district police, apart from vandalism, the accused were booked under various sections of the IPC such as obstructing public servant in discharge of duty. They further revealed that while four persons were arrested from the Falta Police Station area, three were arrested from the Usthi Police Station area in South 24 Paraganas district.
The BJP president’s convoy was pelted with stones, bottles and sticks allegedly by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers at Sirakol in Diamond Harbor. The attack took place while he was on his way to address a rally.
Several senior BJP leaders such as national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, vice president Mukul Roy sustained injuries in the attack. Nadda claimed that eight BJP workers were hospitalised following the incident.
