A teen killed herself by consuming a poisonous substance in Uttar Pradesh's J P Nagar district, about 350 km from here, after she suffered sexual harassment.
According to reports, Rajani (name changed), a high school student, was allegedly being sexually harassed by a youth from her own village for the past several days. The victim had complained to her parents and the latter tried everything to prevent her harassment but it continued with their efforts in vain.
On Thursday, the alleged culprit even roughed up the father of the victim when he was asked to keep his hands off Rajani. The youth also allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.
Reports said the victim was sexually harassed again, on Friday, while she was on her way to school.
According to thefamily, Rajani was sad and depressed when she returned from school. She allegedly consumed some poisonous substance later. She was rushed to the nearby health centre, where she started vomiting upon arrival. From there she was moved to the district hospital, but died there a little later.
