Congress MP Shashi Tharoor suffered head injuries while performing 'Tulabharam' ritual at a temple in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday morning.

Tharoor, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Thiruvananthapuram, made the 'Tulabharam' offering in connection with the Vishu festival in Kerala. As he was offering 'Tulabharam' using sugar at the Gandhari Amman Devi temple in the city the weighing balance collapsed and a heavy metal portion hit on his head, causing a deep wound.

Tharoor was rushed to a nearby government hospital and the wound stitched. He was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital and kept under observation. He also suffered minor injuries on legs.

Temple sources said that rush of party workers to swing the weighing balance led to its collapse.
