Governor K Sankaranarayanan will administer the oath of office to Soren and other ministers at the Morahabadi grounds, bringing an end to the 12-month President’s rule that came into force on January 19 following Soren’s defeat in the Tamar bypoll. However, Peter is now one of the legislators supporting the proposed government, and he is a prominent contender for a berth in the new council of ministers. He won the election on Janta Dal (United) ticket this time.

The way for Soren’s appointment was paved after the governor invited him to form the government on Sunday afternoon. Soren on Friday staked claim to form the government, submitting a list of 42 MLAs which included 18 legislators of the JMM, 18 of the BJP, five of the AJSU and one Independent to the governor.

According to a power-sharing formula, the JMM will keep the chief minister’s post and three cabinet berths, the BJP will get four ministers, the AJSU three and the JD(U) one. “There will be two deputy chief ministers—Sudesh Mahto of the AJSU and Raghuvar Das from the BJP—and the Speaker is likely to be from the BJP,” sources said.
