Forces responded with batoncharge on school students and their mothers, causing injury to several women, reports from the region suggest. Parents protested under the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA), but police blamed Maoist sympathisers for the agitation.

Security forces used batons to disperse the agitating crowd in Gohomidanga near Dharampur locality in Lalgarh. A PCAPA spokesperson claimed that at least 50 persons, including women and children were injured in the clash. “We don’t understand why the security camps must continue to exist in the school premises and disrupt children’s education,” he said.

The area remained tensed following the batoncharge, as leaders of the Committee vowed to intensify the agitation. DIG of police (Criminal Investigation Department) S N Gupta confirmed the clash had taken place and said the situation is under control.
