Planning Commission secretary Sindhushree Khullar is most likely to become the first woman Comptroller and Auditor General of India, with the UPA government getting security clearance on the IAS officer to replace Vinod Rai after he hangs his boots towards the end of the month.

Top government sources said only Khullar’s name was sent for security profiling from the intelligence agencies which is a must for sensitive, top appointments. The government has got a go ahead on her name, which was being pushed by a powerful minister of the UPA government. However, a formal decision by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is expected in a few days time, said government sources.

She is looking after UPA government’s flagship programme of Direct Benefits Transfer Scheme through which the subsidy amount is directly transferred into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
