The Railway Ministry and the Road Transport Ministry on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on construction of rail over bridges and rail under bridges on National Highway corridors.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu and the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, as well as respective ministers of state Manoj Sinha and Pon Radhakrishnan.
A web portal was inaugurated to clear the proposals of rail over birdges and rail under bridges within 60 days. Earlier, this used to take between 6 months and two and half years. Manoj Sinha said the Railways has planned 1,000 such bridges and 200 of them are to be completed this year. Prabhu added that any initiative which removes bottlenecks is praiseworthy.
