The Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a drive on social media to “expose” separatist leaders “who instigate people to protest, whereas their kith and kin enjoy a lavish lifestyle outside the Valley”.
Through the social media campaign, #HurriyatThugLeaders, the police want the protesters to know they were being used by the separatist leadership. The posts, being circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook, have triggered a new debate in society, while some call it a propaganda to defame separatist leadership.
Sources said the police want the protesting youth to know the reality of Hurriyat leaders who instigate them to violence. “An eye-opener for all Kashmiri youths who are blindly following these #HurriyatThugLeaders,” read the post circulated by police officials.
The police have taken the first dig at Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani. “Nayeem Geelani, son of chairman Syed Ali Geelani, is a medical practitioner in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Syed’s second son, Zahoor Geelani, lives with his family in New Delhi,” the police said.
“Syed’s grandson worked for a private airline in Delhi. Hisdaughter Farhat Geelani is a teacher in Jeddah and her husband is an engineer there,” the police exposed. Even the relatives of moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq are settled in USA.
