To ensure seamless transportation of buses, the Ministry of Road Transport is working on giving a national permit to tourist buses on the line of trucks.

As per the proposal, bus operators have to pay an annual fee which will help them to ply across the country.

At present, operators have to obtain a separate permit to ply tourist buses and have to pay permit charges in each state the bus enters.

The operators had earlier demanded the Centre to introduce an all-India permit system for tourist buses.

The ministry is planning to collect Rs 3 lakh per annum for air-conditioned buses and Rs 2 lakh for non-ac buses ferrying more than 23 passengers, an official said.

A notification in this regard is expected soon, the official added.
