On his way back after a three-day special party meet at Agra, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav alleged "our candidates were defeated because of misuse of government machinery by the BSP,"

He was talking to reporters at the railway station here yesterday while returning to Lucknow.

In the four assembly bypolls SP not only failed to open its account, but could not even retain Malihabad and Bidhuna seats, which were wrested by BSP, which also snatched a seat from BJP.

Accusing Chief Minister Mayawati of not paying heed to the drought situation in the state Yadav alleged that the ruling party was instead misusing public fund for building statues and parks.

After the Agra meet, where SP leaders had lashed out against the policies and programmes of the state government, the SP chief said the agitation would be launched soon.

The Agra conference had decided to start a fill-the-jail campaign against the performance of the Mayawati government.
