Raising the problems of arecanut farmers during zero hour in Lok Sabha, the MP said that due to stopping of purchasing of areca by gutka manufactures following ban imposed by Supreme Court on use of plastic sachets, prices of produce have crashed.
As over 25 lakh farmers in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam were depending on this cash crop, the sudden price crash has created havoc in the farming community of these states, he said.
