Sriram Ayer, the Indian-American Texas-based founder of Purilan Technology has triggered a controversy by criticising the behavior of many Gujaratis abroad.

In a post on X, Ayer said “In the US and Canada, a vast majority of Gujjus are causing havoc and bringing shame to India,” triggering a heated debate.

Ayer further said that the behaviour of Gujaratis will damage India's credibility abroad.

He went on to add that South Indians are much better.

"The incidents involving South Indians are very, very rare," added Ayer, a statement which ruffled many feathers as he has been accused of regional bias and discrimination.

Ayer's comments which were published my multiple media outlets, that Gujaratis do not attempt to blend with the respective culture also drew flak from many quarters.

On X, many people disagreed and contested his statements while there were some who still came out in his support.

Another post condemned his argument by saying, “Honestly, this kind of post says more about you than the people you’re trying to criticise. Every community has its mix, some who embarrass, and many who inspire.”
