Chennai: At least 14 flights scheduled for various destinations in the Middle East from Chennai and Tiruchirapalli airports and vice-versa were cancelled on Tuesday due to escalation of conflict between Israel and Iran.
Three Qatar Airlines flights to Doha from various cities in Thailand were diverted to the Chennai Airport as a precautionary measure. While six flights from Chennai to Doha, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Dubai were cancelled, five flights to Chennai from various destinations in the region were cancelled.
The cancelled flights belonged to Qatar Airways, Air India Express, and Indigo.
Three flights to Sharjah, and Doha from Tiruchirapalli were also cancelled due to closure of airspace in certain regions in the Middle East, sources said.
