Chennai: AIADMK MLA from Valparai, T K Amulkandasami, passed away in Coimbatore on Saturday following a prolonged illness. He was 60.
Amulkandasami, who won the 2021 assembly elections by defeating CPI candidate by a margin of over 12,000 votes, was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore. Valparai, a scenic town, is located in Coimbatore district.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami condoled the death of Amulkandasami, who held several positions within the AIADMK before he became a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He also served as vice-president of the Coimbatore District Panchayat.
With Amulkandasami’s death, Valparai assembly seat will fall vacant soon necessitating a by-poll. However, it is not clear whether by-polls for the constituency will be held with just less than a year left for the tenure of the assembly to end.
