Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Thursday said he would not wear footwear until the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is ousted from power in the state. He also said he would whip himself six times in front of his residence on Friday to protest against the sexual assault of a girl student at the Anna University here.
The former Karnataka-cadre IPS officer also said he would undertake a fast for 48 days from December 27 till the second week of February following which he will visit all six abodes of Lord Murugan across the state and offer prayers to help him “oust the DMK from power.”
Addressing a press conference in Coimbatore, an agitated Annamalai sought to know who was responsible for “leaking” the FIR of the sexual assault which gave away the identity of the survivor. “Is this the way to write an FIR? One will really doubt who is the accused? The offender or the survivor? It is a poorly drafted FIR. Who will take responsibility for leaking the FIR? Will the police speak at least now?” he asked.
Lamenting about the “pathetic level of public discourse” in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai said he has vowed not to wear footwear till the DMK is ousted from power. “I won’t wear footwear from now on,” Annamalai said after taking off his shoes at the press conference.
