Tamil Nadu on Thursday announced that it will hold the third edition of its Global Investors Meet on January 7 and 8 with Chief Minister M K Stalin releasing the logo for the mega event even as he projected the state as a “perfect blend of timeless tradition, thriving industrial ecosystem, technological advancement, treasured talent, and social inclusion.”
The logo, which is centered around the Tamil letter Tha, signifies the Tamil language, its people and the state of Tamil Nadu, Stalin said at a gala event attended by top executives and diplomats.
“Tha is the identity of Tamils and it is the pillar on which the state of Tamil Nadu stands. The logo itself demonstrates our goal. I request the representatives from the industry to turn into brand ambassadors for the state of Tamil Nadu and ensure that the state continues to get investments,” Stalin said.
Terming Tamil Nadu as a “perfect blend of timeless tradition, thriving industrial ecosystem, technological advancement, treasured talent, and social inclusion”, the Chief Minister said Tamil Nadu is the gateway for endless opportunities.
“Extending a warm welcome to investors worldwide! Let's meet in January 2024,” he told the industry bodies and representatives at the event. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the state will garner investments worth thousands of crores of rupees during the two-day GIM.
In his speech, Stalin said the state has garnered investments worth Rs 2.97 lakh crore generating employment opportunities for 4.15 lakh people since the DMK assumed office in May 2021.
CII President R Dinesh, who is the Executive Vice Chairman of TVS Supply Chain Solutions, said the GIM 2024 will serve as a perfect platform for the industry, investor community, and the government of Tamil Nadu.
“With the investments that are to come to Tamil Nadu during the GIM, I believe the state will have the potential to turn into a USD 1 trillion economy as desired by the Chief Minister in 2028” two years prior to the deadline set by him, Dinesh added.
The previous versions of the GIM were conducted in 2015 and 2019, both under the AIADMK regime, and came under severe criticism from the DMK, which was then occupying the Opposition benches, for low realisation of MoUs into projects.
A reply from the Tamil Nadu government in April 2022 to a RTI application said only Rs 65,486 crore of the total Rs 2,42,160 crore pledged during the 1st edition of GIM (2015) was realised generating employment to 1.80 lakh people as against the promised 4.70 lakh.
The reply also said investments worth Rs 1.18 lakh crore of the Rs 3 lakh core pledged during the second edition of GIM (2019) have been realised so far providing jobs to 1.03 lakh people against the promised figure of 10.50 lakh.
