Chennai: Pitching the 2026 assembly elections as a “two-way” contest between the ruling DMK and his Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), actor-politician Vijay on Friday accused Chief Minister M K Stalin of failing to “protect women” in Tamil Nadu, which he alleged, is now under the “control of one family.”
In his address at the first general council meeting of the TVK, Vijay, for the first time, took the names of Stalin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi while launching a frontal attack on the DMK and BJP, which he said were in a “secret alliance.”
“The 2026 elections is a fight between two sides…TVK and DMK. Let us prepare ourselves for the fight,” Vijay said at the end of his 15-minute speech. This is not just aimed at projecting TVK as the principal opponent to the ruling DMK but also putting the AIADMK on notice just a few days after the Dravidian party warmed up to the BJP after 18 months.
Lambasting Stalin, Vijay sought to know why he doesn’t like only when his government is criticised and accused him of promoting only his family. He also alleged that the DMK government has been creating obstacles for TVK to hold public meetings and organise his public engagements.
“Honourable ‘monarchist’ Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, I would like to ask you if the BJP government at the Centre is fascist, then what is your government? The government you lead is nothing short of a fascist regime. Who are you to stop me from meeting my own people?” he asked.
Observing that Tamil Nadu is a land of social justice and communal harmony, Vijay said the state was against “divisive forces” and asked people to vote out the DMK government if democracy was to prevail in Tamil Nadu.
”…there is no law and order in Tamil Nadu. It will be women who will ensure the DMK’s exit from the government,” Vijay added.
Issuing a word of caution to Modi, the TVK leader asked him to be “careful” while dealing with Tamil Nadu. “Modi ji, please handle Tamil Nadu with care. This is a state that remains a Waterloo for many,” he added.
The actor also accused the DMK of using Congress to win elections and taking the help of BJP to indulge in corruption. “DMK’s secret owner is BJP,” he added.
