BigBasket CEO Hari Menon shared an extraordinary customer experience with Tata 1mg that went beyond a routine checkup, transforming into a heartfelt tribute to his father-in-law, E Sreedharan, famously known as the "Metro Man of India."
Menon revealed in a post on X that Sreedharan had travelled from Kerala to celebrate Onam with the family and required a set of medical tests. Being a regular user of Tata 1mg, Hari booked the tests through the platform, expecting the usual smooth process. What followed, however, was an unexpected and deeply touching gesture.
A member of the Tata 1mg’s team recognised Sreedharan's name during the booking and realised they were serving one of India's most iconic engineers, who revolutionised urban transportation through his work on metro projects. Instead of simply uploading the test results online, the team decided to hand-deliver them along with personalised notes.
One note from the company's regional head expressed as an “absolute honour” for Tata 1mg to serve him, while praising his role in transforming India’s infrastructure. Another handwritten letter from the team described metro lines as the “veins” of Indian cities and described Sreedharan as the visionary who gave them life with his “blood and sweat.”
Hari shared that this thoughtful gesture brought a smile to Sreedharan’s face and left a lasting impression on him as well. “It reminded me why certain brands stay in your heart long after the transaction is over,” he said.
This simple act of recognition by Tata 1mg transformed an everyday medical service into a touching tribute for a national icon, showcasing how genuine appreciation can turn ordinary experiences into lasting memories.
