Team Anna, Lokpal high on CWC agenda

Unable to resolve the contentious issues under the controversial Bill, the Congress-led government has now turned  to the party’s highest policy-making machinery for some sort of solution to the matter. The CWC meeting comes ahead of the July 3 all-parties meeting, convened by the government.

The monsoon session of Parliament, set to begin from August 1, is also expected to focus on the Lokpal. Already, most chief ministers – including some from Congress-ruled states – have refused to give their opinion on the contentious points which the Lokpal joint drafting committee chairman Pranab Mukherjee had sought. They have said they would wait till the government comes out with its formal draft Lokpal Bill.

The Friday meeting of the CWC will, incidentally, be its first one after the reconstitution of the Committee in March. Other political issues bugging the government and the party are also likely to figure during the deliberations.
