Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a man was killed over an old debt of just Rs 22 in Medak, Telangana. Medak police took the accused into custody on Tuesday.
Two men from Uttar Pradesh had migrated to Medak for daily wage work. After a day's labour, they habitually sipped liquor in the evening with their earnings. Mohammad Siraj and Mahesh along with another person Ravi Kumar shared a room and were eking out a living through daily labour work.
On Sankranti Day last Thursday, they bought liquor, sat under a tree, and began drinking. Mahesh then demanded repayment of Siraj's old Rs 22 debt, sparking a heated argument.
In a drunken rage, Mahesh grabbed Siraj by the head and slammed it against the tree. He then fetched a nearby stone and struck his head forcefully, killing him on the spot before fleeing.
"Mohammad Siraj and Mahesh from Uttar Pradesh, along with another person, shared a room in Chegunta police limits of Medak district. They drank almost daily after work. On Sankranti, while sipping liquor under a tree, a quarrel erupted over the Rs 22 debt Siraj owes to Mahesh. Mahesh slammed Siraj against the tree, then hit him with a stone, causing death on the spot. He fled afterward," said Tupran DSP Narendra Goud. Locals spotted the dead body and alerted police. Preliminary probe confirmed alcohol as the trigger.
Chegunta police registered the case on a complaint from their roommate, Ravikumar. He noticed his roommates missing, made preliminary inquiries with locals, and approached the police. Police seized evidence, including the accused shirt and the stone used in the attack.
