Hyderabad: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing alleged phone tapping in Telangana under the previous BRS regime has summoned former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to appear for questioning on January 30.
SIT officials visited KCR’s Nandi Nagar residence in Banjara Hills Thursday to serve the CrPC Section 160 notice, empowering investigators to summon witnesses. This marks KCR's first summons as the team has already recorded statements from son KT Rama Rao and nephews T Harish Rao and Joginapally Santosh Kumar.
The notice, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police P Venkatagiri of Jubilee Hills, said “During the course of investigation, it has been revealed that you are acquainted with facts and circumstances relevant to the case. Your examination is therefore necessary. Accordingly, you are hereby required to make yourself available on 30-01-2026 at 15:00 hours.”
Given KCR's age above 65, the notice invokes CrPC Section 160 provision, waiving mandatory police station appearance. It adds, “If you so desire, you may voluntarily appear at Jubilee Hills Police Station or specify any other place within Hyderabad city convenient for examination. You are requested to intimate your preferred place well in advance.”
Last June, KCR testified for 50 minutes before a judicial commission led by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, probing lapses in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project's Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. BRS slammed the latest summons as political vendetta.
