Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Wednesday constituted an expert committee to investigate the explosion at Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district and submit a detailed report with suggestions and recommendations.
The committee will be chaired by Dr B Venkateswar Rao, Emeritus Scientist at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT).
Other members include Dr T Prathap Kumar, Chief Scientist at IICT; Dr. Surya Narayana, Retired Scientist from the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI); and Dr Santosh Ghuge, Safety Officer at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL).
The committee has been tasked with identifying the causes and establishing the sequence of events that led to the major explosion at Sigachi Industries Ltd., which resulted in 38 deaths and multiple injuries.
The panel will examine whether Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for worker safety were followed at the industrial unit.
Additionally, the committee will investigate any absence, inadequacy, or violation of compliance regarding chemical and industrial processes required to be followed by the company management.
The panel is expected to recommend measures to prevent such incidents in similar chemical and pharmaceutical industrial units in the future.
The committee is authorised to examine the management, staff, and workers of Sigachi Industries Ltd. at the IDA facility in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district. It may also interact with various consultants, organizations, individuals, and government officials as deemed necessary during its inquiry.
The committee must submit a comprehensive report with specific suggestions and recommendations within one month. The Director of Factories, Telangana, will assist the committee and provide necessary information during the investigation.
