Hyderabad: Telugu students studying in colleges and universities across northern India are returning home amid escalating border tensions.
At least eight students from IIT Jammu have already arrived at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi, seeking safe passage to their homes in Telangana.
The Telangana government's designated call center has been flooded with SOS calls from concerned students and parents.
Telangana Bhavan Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal met with affected students on Saturday, assuring them of all possible assistance. Many educational institutions in the border states have already declared holidays as a precautionary measure.
State officials are currently arranging safe transportation for these students to return to Telangana. The affected students are enrolled in various professional courses across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
At Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) in Srinagar, over 300 students, including many from Telugu states, have expressed serious concerns about their safety. Students reported anxiety due to explosions near border areas and requested immediate evacuation to safer locations.
In response to a letter from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana students, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay took prompt action. After speaking with the District Collector and University Dean, arrangements were made to relocate the students. As a result, 23 students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu were transported by bus from Srinagar to Delhi, from where they will continue to their respective hometowns.
To coordinate relief efforts, a control room has been established at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi with dedicated helpline numbers: 011-23387089, 98719 99430, and 98719 99053. For additional assistance, students can contact the Deputy Commissioner (98719 90081) or the Liaison Officer (98183 95787).
