Mohammed Ahmed from Hyderabad, who went to Russia after being promised a job in the construction sector, has found himself trapped in the country after being defrauded by a job agent.
Ahmed was forcefully given weapons, and he is now fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war, as reported by NDTV World.
His wife, Afsha Begum, has approached the Foreign Ministry requesting to bring back her husband, who is trapped in Russia and is being forced into combat training.
She said a consultancy firm in Mumbai offered a job to Ahmed, and as per the agreement, he left for Russia in April this year.
She said he was not given any work for almost a month, and after which he, along with 30 others, was handed weapons and shifted to a remote area for weapons training.
After the training, they were taken to the border area to fight against the Ukrainian army.
Afsha added that Ahmed jumped out of the army vehicle as he refused to fight. He suffered a fracture in his right leg, she added. "But he is being threatened to either fight against the Ukrainian army or get killed," she said, as reported by the publication.
In a video, Ahmed said that 25 men trained with him, and 17 of them have been killed, including an Indian.
"The place where I am is a border, and war is going on. We four Indians refused to go (into the warzone). They threatened us to fight and pointed a weapon at me and another person... They placed a gun to my neck and said they would shoot me and stage it as if I was killed by a drone," he said.
"I have a plaster on my leg and am unable to walk. Please do not spare the agent who sent me here (Russia). He got me entangled in all this. He made me sit here for 25 days without work. I kept asking for work, but in vain. I was forcefully dragged into this in the guise of employment in Russia," Ahmed added.
Ahmed's family also approached All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi and requested help.
The X handle of the AIMIM has posted on the matter and written that Owaisi has appealed to the Indian Embassy in Russia to help bring back Mohammed Ahmed.
Owaisi has requested the embassy to take immediate action for his safe repatriation to India, the post read.
Owaisi also took to his X handle to say that efforts are being made to bring back Ahmed, along with three others named Anoop Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Sumit Kumar.
