Telangana's first budget session today

The Telangana Assembly is preparing to have its first ever budget session on Wednesday, with the opposition Congress and the Telugu Desam, still smarting from mass exodus of their party men to the ruling TRS, sharpening their knifes for a frontal attack on the government on issues ranging from power crises to farmers’ suicide.

Though the Congress, the main opposition in the state, wants to refrain from picking at the government on smaller issues so that there was ample time for the nascent state machinery to move smoothly, there seemed no sign of its initial bonhomie with the TRS.

“It took five months to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to realize that the state is staring at severe power shortage. Now he goes to Chhattisgarh to sign an MoU for power that would reach Telangana after three years,” TPCC chief Ponnala Laxmaiah said at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here.

The TPCC has asked its members to confront the treasury benches with the farm loan waver issue right on the first day of the budget session.
