BSP supremo Mayawati may ally with Jana Sena chief and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Telangana.

Kalyan, the brother of Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, had a meeting with some BSP leaders in the state capital on Wednesday. According to sources, Kalyan and BSP leaders discussed the possibility of an electoral tie-up in the Telangana Assembly elections.

Kalyan could not meet Mayawati as the latter was not in the town.

The actor-turned-politician also visited the memorials of B R Ambedkar and other SC ideologues here.

BSP sources said that Kalyan evinced interest in tying up with Mayawati in the Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh also.

BSP leaders said that they had briefed Mayawati about their meeting with Kalyan and a decision in this regard would be taken by the BSP supremo in the next few days.

The BSP has already announced its candidates for 119 seats in the Telangana Assembly polls. Party sources said that it could consider leaving a few seats for the Jana Sena. "Mayawati will take a call on the number of seats to be left for Jana Sena in the event of an electoral alliance," said a senior BSP leader here while speaking to DH on Thursday.

The BSP had won two seats — Sirpur and Nirmal — in Telangana in 2014 Assembly elections. The BSP has also entered into an alliance with Ajit Jogi's party for Chattisgarh Assembly polls.
