It was a grand ceremony, where three generations of the Thackerays––Bal, his son and Sena executive president Uddhav and grandson Aditya––were present on the dias for the first time, heralding the arrival of the new Thackeray on Maharashtra’s political scene.

Thackeray and Uddhav blessed the new entrant, and together they garlanded the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji, by whose name they and the party swear day and night.

Thackeray also handed over a gleaming sword to Aditya, who has been launched as the chief of Yuva Sena, the party’s youth wing, established especially to counter the Swabhiman Sena of rebel-turned-Congressman Narayan Rane’s son Nilesh.
