Tihar Jail Director-General Vimla Mehra has ordered an inquiry over jailed Indian National Lok Dal leader Ajay Singh Chautala alleged public address to his supporters via a phone from the prison.

Chautala had in the guise of making a telephone call to his son addressed a gathering of his supporters over phone. As per rules, inmates are allowed to talk to their family every day for five minutes over the phone.

Chautala made a call to his son between February 19 and 20, who called his supporters and put the phone on loud speaker.

“An inquiry was set up on Saturday. We are looking at every angle. The report will be submitted soon. Action will be taken if the allegation were corroborated,” Mehra said.
Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and son Ajay are lodged at jail number two.

The father-son duo was sentenced to ten years imprisonment last month for irregularities in appointment of over 3,000 junior basic trained (JBT) teachers in Haryana in 1999-2000.

Another jail official said that Chautala addressed a rally at Haryana’s Sonipat district for five minutes on February 20 when his son Dushyant patched him up through the speaker phone.
According to sources, Chautala used the occasion to update the crowd about Om Prakash Chautala’s health and inquired about the well-being of the villagers.
