Kamal Haasan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam has entered into an alliance with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The decision was announced jointly by the actor-turned-politician and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday following a meeting they had.

"We (Makkal Needhi Maiam) have entered into an alliance with the TMC. I have a very good relation with her (Banerjee) and came to invite her to our rally in Andaman on April 6," Kamal told reporters at the West Bengal secretariat.

The Makkal Needhi Maiam has decided to support TMC candidate Ayan Mondal in the Andaman Lok Seat and Kamal himself will campaign for him.

"We are glad to have formed an alliance with the TMC and are hopeful that the scope of this alliance will grow in the future," Kamal said.

Mamata said the "alliance is a good opportunity for Tamil Nadu and Bengal to work together".
