As a special Christmas delight, West Bengal’s famous toy train services will resume operations from December 25. The services were suspended in March during the nation-wide lockdown following the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to sources in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) the decision to resume the toy train services was taken following consent from the Bengal government.

“The state government has given its nod for the resumption of the toy train services between Darjeeling and Ghum at present,” said an NFR official.

Three daily joy ride services will be run between Darjeeling and Ghum stations from Friday, the NFR spokesman said from Maligaon. The number of services may be increased later depending on the demand of passengers, he said.

However, the resumption of services over the full 88-km stretch of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri station was subject to further approval by the West Bengal government.
