Online abuses and trolls were on Thursday brought to the attention of the Supreme Court with senior advocate Harish Salve disclosing that he deleted his Twitter account due to offensive comments.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud also expressed its concern over people making comments on Twitter on court’s observations in pending matters without cross-checking the facts.
Acting as amicus curiae in the matter pertaining to former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan, senior advocates Harish Salve and F S Nariman cited “abusive” comments made on social media.
Salve said he had to delete his Twitter account after facing abuses when he argued for Christian Medical College against the introduction of NEET for admission to undergraduate courses in medical colleges.
Nariman said he was happy to be away from social media. “I have many things to do than to know what somebody said about me,” he said.
