Truck runs over 12 officials, five killed

Five persons, including four revenue staff, died in a freak accident on Wednesday. A sand-filled truck ran over a group of 12 government officials, killing three on the spot. Two succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

According to the Kurnool police, the incident took place at around 11:30 am on a highway near Nannur village of Oravakal mandal between Nandyal and Kurnool.

The group had been assigned to survey land for the setting up of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kurnool district. They reached the spot and parked their car adjacent to the highway, waiting for Kurnool district collector Sudarshan Reddy to arrive.
