The police arrested two youths in Gangral village in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan for reportedly beating up Kashmiri students. The police action follows the incident on Wednesday, during which locals beat up eight Kashmiri students in the market area.

Station House Officer, Gangral police station, Dinesh Sukhwal confirmed the two arrests.

“We have arrested two persons based on witnesses and identification by local shopkeepers who were present when the incident took place. We are looking for more people reportedly involved in beating up the Kashmiri boys,” Sukhwal said.

The arrested youths were held under IPC Section 151.

The police also lodged an FIR under IPC Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) on Thursday morning against unknown persons.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje reached out to the affected students via Twitter. “Kashmiri students are our children. Police have taken prompt action & apprehended the culprits,” she tweeted.
