Absconding JNU student Umar Khalid’s father has approached the Delhi Police to report a threat phone call.

A complaint has been filed with Jamia Nagar police station in south east Delhi. Police said on Saturday that the caller claimed that his “people” will kill Khalid and his father. The caller identified himself as Ravi Pujari and claimed to be from Australia.

“Umar Khalid’s father SQR Ilyas has sought an FIR under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code claiming criminal intimidation,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

The caller was using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) due to which the call was not traced till Saturday evening.

Ilyas is the president of Welfare Party of India. He is also the editor of Urdu monthly Afkar-e-Milli, published from Delhi.

In his complaint, Ilyas told police that the call was received on the landline phone of his Abul Fazal Enclave office in Jamia Nagar.
