The Uttar Pradesh government has refused to part with details relating to setting up of commissions of inquiry since independence sought through a query under the RTI Act.

In a strange response, the state government’s home department took the stand that the information regarding formations of commissions of inquiry under 1952 Act would be very heavy and cumbersome.

Lucknow-based RTI activist Nutan Thakur sought the information with the chief secretary and home department of the state government requesting them to provide details about various inquiry commissions formed under Section 3 of the Commission of Inquiries Act 1952, their composition and membership, date of formation, increase of time duration and the interim and final reports submitted by them.
