As the number of fresh Covid-19 cases increased, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday made the wearing of masks mandatory in the NCR districts and the state capital of Lucknow.
Masks have been made mandatory at public places in Ghaziabad, Noida, Hapur, Meerut, Bulandshahar, Baghpat and Lucknow.
A health department official here said that the government was monitoring the situation and would implement the decision strictly. "We are keeping a close watch on the situation.....necessary measures have been initiated at places where cases have been rising," the official added.
He said that genome sequencing of samples of the people showing symptoms of Covid-19 would also be conducted.
The decision came in the wake of rising infections in the districts bordering Delhi and also in Lucknow and Agra. According to health officials here, as many as 65 cases were reported from Gautam Buddh Nagar in the past 24 hours while Ghaziabad witnessed 20 new cases. 10 cases were also reported from the state capital during the same period.
According to the reports, the parents in Ghaziabad had stopped their children from going to schools after cases of Covid infections were reported from some institutes. A health official said that chest infection had not been found in the Covid-positive children so far.
The state government has also directed to speed up the work of vaccination.
