"The US consulate officials sought access to Haveliwala who was born in America and stayed there for over 20 years. After completing all formalities, they were given access to the accused," a senior police official, who did not wish to be named, told PTI.

Three officials, including two women, attached with US consulate yesterday evening had access to Haveliwala, who is currently in police custody, following the permission and interacted with her for over one hour in the presence of Arun Borude, Senior Police Inspector of L T Marg police station, the source said.

Having completed her study and beautician course, Haveliwala had a couple of months ago returned to India from the US where her two brothers are settled, sources said.
