He revealed this after meeting Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here on Monday.
“I just had a very successful meeting with the Home Minister where I talked about working very closely with the government of India on counter-terrorism issues,”  Roemer said.
On the United States granting access to Headley, he said, “This is an issue that is being taken up at the highest levels of the US government day in and day out.”

India has been seeking some kind of access to Headley to know about his India-specific terror plots. The US has so far denied India any access to Headley.

Headley recently entered into a plea bargain with the US government under which he offered to present himself for access through video conferencing, deposition or Letter Rogatory (official request).

“We empathise here in Mumbai with the Indian people for  the tragic loss of lives in terror attacks and we want to make sure that justice is brought to all those who have suffered in that kind of attack,” Roemer said.

“It is in the interest of both the governments to protect common people from attacks wherever they may come from,” the Ambassador said.

Letter

India is expected to get access to Headley within 30 days of sending a letter of request, which is being prepared, government indicated here on Monday.
Government sources said that the letter, to be sent to the US, is being prepared and access is expected to be given within 30 days after they receive it.
