Screening of the much-awaited Kamal Haasan-starrer “Uthama Villain” was cancelled across Tamil Nadu, even as the disappointed fans went on rampage demanding the immediate release of the film.

The movie, which was mired in controversy with the VHP calling for ban, was scheduled to release on Friday morning.

In Trichy, several Kamal fans pelted stones on the buses and blocked the traffic at several junctions. Stone pelting was also reported in several theatres, which was supposed to release the movie, the police said.

Theatre owners were in a fix over the sudden cancellation of the shows.  It was not known when the film will be screened.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Film Association sources said the shows were cancelled due to differences between the financiers and film makers.

Confirming that special shows and morning shows were cancelled, sources said the differences were being sorted out and talks have begun to release the movie at the earliest.
