The Centre will soon offer “a standard software” to all the states and Union Territories for creation of a database of their school teachers with key details about them ranging from the date of their joining, location of posting to their teaching experiences.
The move is aimed at streamlining the teacher's recruitment and posting in the government schools with many of the states failing to fill up the vacant positions.
According to statistics with the government, over 9 lakh teachers posts are laying vacant in the elementary schools across the country while over one lakh teachers posts are vacant in country's schools at secondary level.
In Karnataka, over 14,000 teachers posts are lying vacant in elementary schools and over 4,000 posts in secondary schools. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have the highest number of teachers vacancies at both elementary and secondary levels.
“Creation of school teachers database with the use of a standard software will facilitate in identifying the vacancies and planning for their filling up on an annual basis,” a senior official of the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry told DH.
The database to be created with the use of a software will also help identify the gaps in the training of the teachers to enable the government to provide “a customised training” to the teachers to improve their performance.
