The 30-year-old woman alleged in her complaint that a man identifying as "Samar Singh" allegedly promised to marry her and called her to a hotel in Lucknow where they had sexual relations.

During the investigation, police said the man was identified as 31-year-old Prayagraj resident, Zeeshan.

The woman also accused him of taking Rs 1.5 lakh from her in instalments after his false promise to marry. His sister and brother-in-law were also arrested for allegedly taking gold jewellery from her.

In her complaint filed on July 8, the woman said she started talking to "Samar Singh" about a year ago.

Later, they got into a fight, but on April 11, they resumed talking, she said.

His sister Shivli Khan (34) and brother-in-law Nadeem Qureshi (36), both residents of Lucknow, were also arrested for allegedly identifying as Hindus and taking gold jewellery from the complainant.

Kotwali police station's SHO RK Rana said the police also recovered the mobile phones of the accused. Soon, a chargesheet will be prepared and presented to the court, he said.

A case has been registered under sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 318(2) (cheating) and 61(2) (a party to a criminal conspiracy) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act in Kotwali police station.

‘Love jihad’ is a term often used by right-wing activists to allege a ploy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage.
