The tragedy occurred outside the wedding venue at Kaimganj in the district late on Thursday night, according to the reports.

Reports said that the marriage of one Vikas Yadav, a district level leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), had been fixed with Deeksha Yadav, a resident of Kaimganj in Farrukhabad district.

The guests asked for closure of the DJ after the wedding party arrived and the rituals began on Thursday night. A youth, Kaushal Yadav, who was said to be the cousin of the bride, however insisted on continuance of the DJ. The ‘baratis’ (guests from the groom’s side), however, refused to allow it.

Allegedly enraged over the closure, Kaushal drove his car into the crowd of the wedding guests killing three people on the spot and leaving two other critically wounded. According to eyewitness reports, Kaushal reversed his vehicle twice and drove into the crowd again forcing the guests to run for safety and triggering chaos at the event.

Police said that the accused managed to escape from the venue after perpetrating the crime. A case was registered in this regard and a hunt was launched to nab him.
