Lucknow: Alleging ‘love jihad’ (Muslim youths marrying Hindu girls on false pretenses), saffron activists allegedly assaulted two Muslim youths at a party organized on the occasion of birthday of a Hindu girl in a Café in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly town.
According to the reports, about two dozen workers of Bajrang Dal (BD) barged into the Café and created ruckus at the party, where eight students of a local nursing college, including two Muslims, were present on Saturday night.
Reports said that the BD workers allegedly assaulted the Muslim youths alleging that they indulged in ‘love jihad’.
The girl, who had thrown the party, kept pleading with them that they (Muslim youths) were her classmates but the saffron outfit workers didn’t stop. They also ransacked the Café, reports said.
A police team, which reached the spot on getting the information, took the Muslim youths and the Café owner into custody and booked them for apprehension of breach of peace.
Police said that a case was also lodged against two BD leaders, identified as Deepak Pathak and Rishabh Thakur in connection with the incident.
Police said that preliminary investigations revealed that the allegations of ‘love jihad’ were false and that all those who were at the party, were students of the same college and were friends.
Earlier also there have been cases involving allegations of ‘love jihad’ in the state. Saffron outfits have made it clear that they will not tolerate such matters under any circumstances.
