Lucknow: Days after an ‘ancient’ temple was found in Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, another ‘ancient’ temple has been discovered in a Muslim dominated locality in Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the saffron outfits, the temple, which was found in Madanpura area in the town, is believed to be 250-years-old.
Reports said that scores of saffron activists reached the spot after pictures of the ‘ancient’ temple went viral on social media platforms and demanded that its lock be opened forthwith to allow them to offer ‘puja’ there.
Officials said that the temple appeared to be ‘’very old’’ and was situated close to the famous ‘Gol Chabutara’ (round platform) in Madanpura.
The administration has deployed a team of PAC jawans and police constables near the temple as a precautionary measure. ‘’We are keeping an eye on the situation,’’ said an official in Varanasi.
Reports said that the house in which the temple was situated was sold to a Muslim businessman several decades back.
Although the saffron activists demanded its immediate opening, sources said that the administration was assessing the situation and a decision in this regard would be taken in the next few days.
Barely a few days back, an ‘ancient’ temple was found in a muslim-dominated locality in Sambhal, where four persons were killed in violence during a court mandated survey of a mosque. The temple, which too was situated in a close house, has since been opened and ‘puja’ was offered.
