Sad and heartbroken, the bride's family approached the police to lodge a complaint against the groom and his family. But no action was taken by the authorities, which led them to escalate the matter to the Superintendent of Police (SP) on December 24.

The family says they incurred a financial loss of of Rs 7 lakh, including Rs 1.5 lakh given as dowry.

The bride's brother said that the family was disappointed with the inaction on part of the police. Despite Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiatives to establish women’s help desks, no help was provided to them, he claimed.
