The injured were admitted to the district hospital and community health centre at Satrikh in the district.

Police sources said that the ill-fated bus was on its way from Barabanki to Haidergarh, when the incident happened near Harakh village around 10.30 am amid heavy rains.

Sources said that the teachers were on their way to Haidergarh to attend a training program organised by the education department.

The tree fell on the front portion of the bus and as a result it was completely damaged. The passengers sitting in the front were buried under the massive tree.

The rescuers from the forest department had a tough time in carrying out rescue operations owing to heavy rains. It took them more than one hour to cut the parts of the tree to take out the trapped passengers. Four persons, including the driver, died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, police said.

Police said that efforts are on to identify the victims.
