Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly got her prospective groom murdered a day before wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district.
According to the police sources here, the woman, identified as Gulafshan, a resident of Dhanupura village in the district, allegedly got her would be groom Nihal, a resident of the same district, murdered by her lover, a day before their wedding.
The police recovered the body of Nihal from a forested area in Azimnagar on Sunday and arrested two persons, including Gulafshan's 'lover', identified as Saddam.
Police said that two motorcycle borne youth came to Nihal’s residence and introduced themselves as cousins of the bride. They took Nihal away on the pretext of purchasing a dress for him.
A search was launched for Nihal when he did not return home till late in the night, police said.
Acting on the basis of CCTV footage the police apprehended Saddam and his accomplice on Monday.
Sources said that Saddam tried to escape after snatching the pistol of one of the cops and fired on the police but was injured in retaliatory firing.
Nihal’s brother lodged a complaint with the police naming Gulafshan behind the murder, sources said.
Police said that they were investigating the role of Gulafshan in the killing. ‘’We are probing the incident….more arrests are likely in the case,’’ said an official in Rampur.
The incident comes close on the heels of the murder of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi by the killers allegedly hired by his wife Sonam, in Meghalaya a few days back. Sonam is in police custody.
