Lucknow: Apparently inspired by India’s ‘’Operation Sindoor’’, launched to avenge the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, against the terrorist camps inside Pakistan, over a dozen parents have named their newborn daughters ‘Sindoor’ in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district.

‘Sindoor’ (vermilion), applied by married Hindu women, is considered to be sacred in Hinduism and is a visual marker of the marital status of a woman.

According to the reports, as many as 17 newborns were named ‘Sindoor’ by their parents in the district. All these babies were born on May 9 and 10 in a medical college hospital, reports said.

‘’Sindoor is no longer a simple word.....it now symbolises our emotions and therefore I decided to name my newborn daughter Sindoor,’’ said Priyanka Devi, a resident of Nahar Chapra village in the district.

Vyasmuni, a resident of Bhatahi Babu village, whose wife gave birth to a baby girl, also named his daughter ‘Sindoor’. ‘’I hope my daughter will understand the real meaning of the word Sindoor when she grows up and fulfils her duties toward her country,’’ he remarked.

Madan Gupta, a resident of Sohrauna in the district said that his wife wanted to name her newborn, if it was a girl, ‘Sindoor’, after the Indian forces avenged the Pahalgam killing by targeting the terrorists.

‘’Her wish is fulfilled....we have named our daughter Sindoor,’’ Madan said.

Another parent said that naming their newborn ‘Sindoor’ would make them remember the day. ‘’We will not only remember this day but also celebrate it,’’ they said.

India launched ‘’Operation Sindoor’’ on May 7 during which several terrorist camps inside Pakistan were destroyed in precision strikes.

Pakistan’s attempts later to target India’s military installations were thwarted and the Indian forces managed to destroy several military sites inside Pakistan before the ceasefire.
