Lucknow: Close on the heels of the arrest of travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra for sharing sensitive military information with Pakistan, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested an Uttar Pradesh businessman, a resident of Rampur district, on suspicion of working for the Pakistani spy agency ISI.
According to the sources, the businessman, identified as Shehzad, who hailed from the Tanda area in Rampur district, was arrested in Moradabad on Sunday.
Sources said that Shehzad had travelled to Pakistan several times and been in contact with several ISI handlers with whom he shared sensitive information and also financed the ISI agents on the direction of his handlers.
Sources said that Shehzad was involved in smuggling of goods including spices, cosmetics, clothes and other items to Pakistan and under this cover he also worked for the ISI. He had also made Indian SIM cards available to the ISI handlers.
Shehzad had also allegedly sent several persons from Rampur and adjoining districts to Pakistan in the past. The ISI used to arrange visas for these people, sources said.
The ATS would take Shehzad on remand for further interrogation after he is produced before a local court.
Shehzad’s family members said that he used to take Indian goods to Pakistan and also brought goods from Pakistan to India.
Several suspected ISI ‘agents’ have been arrested in different parts of the country in the past few days. Barely a couple of days back, travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra was arrested for allegedly sharing military information with ISI.
