A case was registered against Karni Sena leader Yogendra Singh Rana in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad town on Monday for his alleged objectionable remarks on Samajwadi Party (SP) Lok Sabha member Iqra Hasan.

Rana, who claimed to be the national vice-president of Karni Sena, had reportedly offered to marry Hasan provided he was addressed as ‘jijaji’ (brother-in-law) by AIMIM president Asauddin Owaisi.

A video containing the purported remarks of Rana went viral on social media platforms a few days back.

The case against Rana was registered at the Katghar police station on the complaint of a woman lawyer Sunita Singh, who said that Rana had humiliated a woman LS member publicly by his comments. ‘’The remarks are against the dignity of the SP MP and also a violation of the constitutional norms,’’ the complainant said.

A delegation of the SP leader Jaiveer Singh had met the police officials in Moradabad on Saturday demanding strict action against Rana.

Rana, however, remained unrepentant and said that he would not apologize for his remarks. He referred to the reported comments of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav when the latter, referring to an incident of rape, had said that ‘’boys make mistakes’.

The police said that Rana had been booked under sections 356 (2), which deals with defamation and section 67 of the IT Act. ‘’The matter is being investigated,’’ said a senior police official in Moradabad.
